Over little more than two months he produced the body of work that became known as \u003cem\u003eLa Comédie Humaine\u003c\/em\u003e, populated by artists, models, spectators, lovers and figures drawn from an imagined classical world.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTériade devoted an entire double issue of his celebrated art journal \u003cem\u003eVerve\u003c\/em\u003e to the series in 1954. The publication was produced in Paris with Mourlot Frères, the legendary lithographic workshop responsible for printing work by many of the defining artists of the twentieth century.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis example, \u003cstrong\u003ePlate VII\u003c\/strong\u003e, carries Picasso's date \u003cstrong\u003e31.1.54 within the image\u003c\/strong\u003e and comes from that original 1954 publication.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere is something wonderfully immediate about these works. Picasso was drawing quickly and obsessively, revisiting the relationship between the artist, the model and his own ageing identity.
